New IDN domains with German sharp s (ß)
Nov 23, 2010 09:04 AM m.zehr LINK
Hi,
It is now possible to register IDN domains which include the character 'ß'. Until now, the 'ß' was converted into 'ss', so it was not possible to distinguish between domains like 'strasse.de' and 'straße.de'.
Unfortunately, I can't set bindings like 'xn--besser-schweien-2ib.de' in IIS7. When I set up a binding like 'besser-schweißen.de' there is no error and the page can be started. However, when requesting the URL 'http://xn--besser-schweien-2ib.de' in a browser, I only get a HTTP 400 error, saying that the request hostname is invalid.

This may be because IIS7 doesn't know the new rule yet. Is there a patch available to fix this problem, or a work around?
It could also be, that the HTTP 400 error is not coming from IIS7 itself. Using Fiddler 2, i got the following HTTP response:
[code]HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
